Our global sustainability programme, SHINE, aims to positively impact the environment, our people and the local communities where we operate our hotels and resorts. It is one of our core corporate values and we divide our sustainability practices into three key pillars – Environment, Employer and Social sustainability, with education the common thread.

Social Sustainability

How we support our local communities:

  • Educational sessions on site or at the hotel
  • General Managers and executive team members act as guest speakers at local organisations
  • Provide assistance with maintenance work
  • Donate educational materials
  • Support and empower communities where our hotels are located
  • Identify and support registered local and international charities
  • Encourage team members to volunteer for community work
  • Organise fundraising activities and donation schemes
  • Buy local products wherever possible

Employer Sustainability

Our goal is to:

Since partnering with Green Globe - the world’s leading certification body for sustainable practices in the hospitality industry – we have set international benchmarks. Not only have we been named the world’s most Green Globe certified hotel group, but more than 50% of our qualified hotels and resorts have achieved Green Globe’s Gold Status, which recognises properties that have been compliant for five years or more.

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH RIGHT4CHILDREN

As part of our commitment to Social Sustainability, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has established a long-term partnership with Right4Children, a Nepal-based NGO that helps provide disadvantaged youngsters with access to education and job opportunities.

Since 2009, we have run the highly-successful Mövenpick Hospitality Programme, with 132 youngsters completing one of three six-month training courses covering Housekeeping, Culinary Services (chefs) and Food and Beverage Services (waiters). Of those graduates, 85% have secured job placements at a Mövenpick property in the Middle East (Dubai, Jordan and Doha), while others have gained employment in the local hospitality industry.     

The wider impact of this programme is just as significant, with more than 650 family members of course participants benefiting from the outcome of their training in terms of gainful employment with regular income.
